Miraclesuit ~ NOT!!!

I have a sign hanging in my laundry room that sums up my feelings about exercise: "I quit jogging, it was bad for my health. My thighs rubbed together and my panties caught on fire."

So. . . I have to share this!!! I wore a long black dress on Saturday night at my convention. It was not a clingy dress, but since I bought it two years ago, well, it's a litte snug!!! So I got a full body shapewear piece called a miraclesuit. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I would love to have had a video camera in the dressing room just trying it on. Let me tell you, I've always believed that putting on control top pantyhose should be an olympic event ~ but alas, control top pantyhose are for sisses compared to the miraclesuit! I have never laughed so hard in all my life!!!!

I had to include a picture of it and I PROMISE you, IT DID NOT look like this on me. But I just wanted you to see how much spandex is in one. Thankfully, the dress I wore has a full skirt, because as you can imagine, this miraclesuit is like a balloon, squeeze the top half, and the bottom half has to go somewhere!!!

GFWC

This weekend I attended a convention. I am an active member of the largest women's volunteer organization in the world. General Federation of Women's Clubs. www.gfwc.org

Each state has several districts, clubs, etc and my state, Georgia www.gafwc.org is part of the Southern Region along with Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, and Mississippi. Not only do I have great friends throughout the state, I also have friends all over the US!! The work our individual clubs and districts do is amazing.

The Internationl President spoke to our group and she is wonderful. Her special project is Domestic Violence Awareness. This really touches my heart and I plan on doing some training to help with some local shelters, etc. One of the biggest movements is bringing awareness to young girls in controlling dating situations and there is also a great movement with dads who teach their boys about respect, love and the way to treat women.

The statistics are frightening ~ it's not just something that happens to others, it's reached epidemic proportions ~ one in every three women. Shelters are full and overflowing ~ and that's just the one's that have the courage to leave. The stories of survivors, family members who've lost loved ones to domestic violence, and those working with these women, children and also men will tear at your heart ~ but will also make you angry.

I must admit, VERY THANKFULLY, that I have never had to experience this in any way. My husband is the most loving, caring man I know. These statistics also make him sick and he supports my passion to work with Women's clubs wholeheartedly and is proud of the fact I'm willing to give my time to these causes.

So check out the websites, join a club, join in the effort to make the world a better place. These women do thousand of things and their passions and goals are varied. Find yours!!!!!

What's in a name?

For the hundreds of you out there that read this blog ~ I've changed the name of it. It was, What's Blogging? because I had no idea what blogging was. Now that I've been blogging, and mainly reading other blogs for a few weeks, I've discovered it's fun and informational!!!!

For instance, one of the favorites I have listed is having a fall bloggy giveaway. http://rocksinmydryer.typepad.com/shannon/ She's invited lots of people to list giveaways on their blog. This not only lets you win things, but it also lets you know about some great creative people out there and find new things!!!!

There are book blogs, craft blogs, school blogs, friends blogs, and some silly blogs that are just fun to read. http://quotation-marks.blogspot.com/ Laugh out loud blogs, too. So . . . go bloggin' and have some fun!!!

More Bookie Stuff!!!!

As you know from a previous post, I am an avid reader and member of a local book club. I usually have a book I am reading, listening to a book on tape in my car and doing a bible study. Some can read more than that at one time, but that is usually my limit. I also have to have the book I'm reading a very different genre from the one on tape! Too confusing.

There are several website for bookies like me, but two I wanted to share today.

Suzanne Beecher at http://www.dearreader.com/ is a great one. This site allows you to sign up for several e-mail book clubs. Fiction, non-fiction, mystery, business, teen, etc. You can pick and choose the ones you want and each day Suzanne sends a 5 minute read of the book. Just enough to peak your interest or realize you don't care for the book. She also has a feature on Monday and Thursday entitled Authorbuzz ~ http://www.authorbuzz.com/dearreader/. One of my favorite features, this allows you to check out other books you might like ~ with contests for signed copies, etc. If you read the description of the book or the first chapter and don't care for it, just delete that e-mail everyday!!!

There are times when I don't have the time to read everyday, so I move them all to a folder and read all of them at one time! Try it, I think you'll like it!

Another fun one is The Great American Book Giveaway at http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474977119796

Have a good read!!!!!!

Rain, Rain, DON'T Go Away!!!!!

Just sending up a prayer of thanks and shouting HALLELUJAH for the rain! It is a true gift from God! A friend of mine from the Atlanta area shared an e-mail last week about how desperate they were ~ and encouraged everyone to quit whining about it, and waiting for the stars to align, and the pressure systems to do this and that, etc., etc., etc., and just ask God for some much needed rain. All I could say this morning upon awakening to the glorious sound of rain in my gutters was ~ Thank you God, Amen and Amen!!!

WHEW!!!

Ever had one of those mornings? You know, everything seems to go haywire ~ including your hair!!!

I had one of those today. It began about 3:15 this am when I got up to use the bathroom. I glanced at my clock and it said 6:30. So I thought ~ yuck, time to get up and get ready. So I used the bathroom and turned on the shower. Thankfully (for me not him) my hubby woke up and asked why I was getting in the shower ~ so at least I did not take a shower. I had not moved the alarm button from the alarm time to the alarm set.

I am working in the V. President of Acad. Affairs today because the Admin. Assistant is out of town. I opened the office, and began to prep for the day. I had a large cup of coffee (you know where this is going, don't you???) with a lid sitting on the desk. I reached to move it and of course it tipped over. The cup hit the telephone, knocked the lid off and almost the entire cup poured into the telephone. (it is 12:30 here and coffee is still dripping out of the phone!!!!)

Of course, this could not be a regular phone, it has 75 lines and all kinds of buttons!!!!!! Thankfully, the lady in purchasing had another one. Of course, I'll have to retype all her phone lists that got wet!!!

I came to my office to eat lunch ~ I was afraid to drive!!!!!!

Roof over my Head!!!

Okay ~ I am not a roofer and I do not know a lot about construction ~ but it seems to me that one would not begin a re-roofing job on a house on a morning like this. For all of those reading from far away places (hahahahahaha) it is FINALLY raining here this morning!!!

At 6:45 this morning my dog started barking and I heard noises next door ~ which happens to be my mother-in-laws house. There were about 6 men on her roof tearing it off in preparation for putting new shingles on.

First of all, did I mention 6:45 in the morning?????????? Just checking to see if you were paying attention. By the time I left for work it was beginning to rain a little harder. I called my husband when I arrived at work, and he said they covered the roof with a tarp and were standing under the carport!!

I do not understand that logic ~ but again, I am not a roofer! I will say I am VERY thankful that my sister-in-law set this particular event up for my mother-in-law, not us!!!!!!

Yard Sale Success!

WOW ~ ask for cooler weather and you get it! Be careful what you pray for!!! It was a brisk morning and I wish you could have seen my friend and I huddled in the tiny stream of sunshine that started in the corner of her driveway about 8:30 am.

We are tired and sore, we did not make a lot of money, but we cleaned out junk and had fun with the people. I think some people come to yard sales just to talk and have some contact with people ~ which was fine with us! One lady came and bought some little things and talked to us. Then she saw a recliner I had for sale. She sat in it and really liked it. I practically gave it to her, but she was very appreciative. She'd lost her husband recently and was driving his little truck and had just enough room for it.

Every kid that came got something given to them. We had some small stuffed animals and could not help but let the kids have one. Our favorite was a little fellow that was out with his grandmother and great-grandmother. He walked straight up to me and asked if we had boy stuff. I told him I was sorry, but that I didn't. He whirled around with this hand on his hip and said very matter of factly ~ "I said I really wanted to go to a yard sale with boy stuff" ~ he was a hoot! They promised him a "boy sale" and we gavc him a stuffed ladybug he liked.

He found a glass golf ball ornament and wanted it. Came up to me with a quarter and I gave him a dime back. He immediately dropped and broke it and along with it, broke his heart. I kneeled down and told him it was alright, something was obviously wrong with the ball for it to break and gave him his quarter back. He then tried to give me the dime back, which of course I did not take ~ so that was worth it!

I came home, ate, took a nap and a nice shower and declared (again) to my hubby, "I will never have another one." Can't imagine why, but he just laughed!!!

Yard Sales!!!!

OH MY GOSH ~ I can't believe I've been talked into another yard sale. I said I would never do another one. Although I also know better ~ "never say never", right?????? So here we go.

One of my best friends has never had one and I agreed to help her do one this weekend. The work you put into one is definitely not worth what you make, but it has made me clean out closets, etc., so I really should not complain!!!

The sale itself can actually be fun unless you have obnoxious people ~ but thankfully that has never happened to me. So say a little prayer that we make it through! I hope to post a blog sometime this weekend about our success and all the wacky, wonderful people we meet!!! Fun, fun!!!!!

Let's Pray

Friends that Pray together stay together...and because you are my friend...let's pray...
Dear Lord, I thank You for this day. I Thank You for my being able to see and to hear this morning. I'm blessed because You are a forgiving God and an understanding God. You have done so much for me and You keep on blessing me. Forgive me this day for I have sinned. I ask now for Your forgiveness. Keep me safe from all danger and harm. Let me start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude. Let me make the best of each and every day and give my best in all that is put before me. Clear my mind that I can hear from You. Broaden my mind that I can accept all things. Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over. Let me continue to see sin through God's eyes and acknowledge it as evil. And when I sin, let me repent, and confess my wrongdoing, and receive the forgiveness of God. And when this world closes in on me, let me remember Jesus' example - to slip away and find a quiet place to pray. It's the best response when I'm pushed beyond my limits. I know that when I can't pray, You listen to my heart. Continue to use me to do Thy Will. Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others. Keep me strong that I may help the weak. Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others. I pray for those that are lost and can't find their way. I pray for those that are misjudged and misunderstood. I pray for those who refuse to share a word from You. I pray for those that will read this and not use this in their lives. I pray for those that will delete this without sharing it with others. I pray for those that don't believe. But I believe. I believe that God changes people and God changes things. I pray for all my sisters and brothers. This is my prayer; I pray in Jesus' name. Amen. HAVE A BLESSED DAY!!! Work for the Lord....the retirement benefits are out of this world!
