Deep Dish

I must say I am disappointed in the latest Mary Kay Andrews book. I really like her books and this was definitely not her best. It was very predictable and boring. It does leave a WIDE open end to a sequel, and I just hope they are a better offer!!! An Amazon reviewer said it best:

" I love Mary Kay Andrews--and have read all of her previous books. But Deep Dish was definitely not on par with her others. I totally agree with the reviewer who said that "it felt like it was slapped together to get it into print". I kept reading, although it was hard to keep going, because I kept thinking it would get better....but it didn't! The characters all seemed superficial and flat. Even her usually quick and witty dialogue seemed forced and fake- it's like she opened a book of cute Southern phrases and just threw them all in there!!! When her next book comes out, I'll buy it too, hoping for a better story and characters. But don't waste your money on this one. Maybe I'll go back and re-read "Itsy Bitsy Lies" or "Hissy Fit" again... :)"

Absolutely nothing!!!

That says what I have to share!!! This has been a busy week, but nothing to write home about, know what I mean?!?!?!?!?!

My Convention last weekend was great ~ I guess!!!! It was like a wedding or Christmas. Work yourself to death for a year, stress the month or two before, then poof, it's over and you've stayed so busy all weekend that you have no idea if it went well or not!!!!! No major snafoos (is that a word?) thank goodness!!!

One of our past members, K, who moved to Florida a couple of years ago joined us for the weekend and roomed with us. The US was four women, in a small Marriott room with 2 double beds, one bath, three drawers, one closet, one chair, 2 curling irons, 2 blow dryers, 1 straightener, 1 set hot rollers (notice what I called them ~ yes, I am old and so were the rollers), one computer, 4 suitcases, 3 cosmetic bags, not enough outlets, lots of boxes of stuff we needed, and snacks and a cooler ~ we were there 4 NIGHTS!!!!! It was a blast!!!!!! I told someone I wished we'd had a video of the whole thing as 4 of us got ready for the formal dinner on Saturday night. Makeup, brushes, rollers, hairspray and clothes flying everywhere.

I have said it before and I will say it again ~ putting on control top pantyhose should be an olympic sport. I bought control top pantyhose, because I forgot to bring this!!! And NO, I do not look like the woman in this picture. If I did, I would not need the full body sucker inner, now would I?????

All went as planned until Sunday morning closing breakfast when K began feeling bad. She ended up at the ER with rapid heartbeat and had to stay the night. Thankfully her parents lived locally. She is back home in Florida now and will see a cardiologist. I just hope we can get her to come back. Love ya K!!!

I took Monday off to recuperate and sure was glad I did!!!!!!!!

WHEW!!!!!

GaFWC Convention

This weekend is my annual Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs Convention. GaFWC is part of the General Federation of Women's Clubs ~ the largest volunteer organization in the world!!! I've been a member for several years and am involved on the district and state level. My district (the state of Georgia has 10 districts) is in charge of convention this weekend. We've been working on it for over a year and ready or not, here it is!!!

I've attached a few pictures of some of the fun things I've been in charge of. Just click on them to enlarge! I had to make some fun stenos for head table favors and was also in charge of the VIP gift. I rolled and tied 51 embroidered blankets and made tags for each. I am fortunate enough to be one of the recipients of the blankets!!!!

Say a little prayer that this weekend goes well and we get at least a couple hours of sleep!!!! I really look forward to this event every year because I see great friends from all over the state!

Mid Week Fun

Hope everyone (my large reading population you know) is having a good week. We've had a hectic one. This was the first conversation of my day, and it helped to begin it well since I was running about 20 minutes behind!!

My friend called and said, "Hey, Oprah's show yesterday pointed out that we needed to call our extraordinary friends."

I said, "Oh thanks, that's sweet."

"Oh no, she said, I was calling to get Jenn's number."

I called her a poopy head!!!

My 22nd wedding anniversary is today and both my husband and I forgot until about 10:15 this morning when he called and wished me happy anniversary. I immediately felt bad because I had not remembered (even though it is plainly on my desk calendar that I look at 100 times a day). "Not to worry", he said, "we've talked three times this morning and I forgot, too." We both had a good laugh ~ guess that's why we've been happily married 22 years, huh????

So here's a shout out to all my extraordinary friends, you know who you are!!!! I love you bunches
And honey, Happy Anniversary ~ I love you, too!!!!

Water for Elephants

I don't always like "flashback" books, but this one was an exception. In Water for Elephants, Sara Gruen's style is fluid and easy to follow. 90 something year old Jacob Jankowski is in a nursing home and reminisces about his time in the circus. The facts about circus life and descriptions of the characters make you feel like you are right there with them. There are some sad parts, but love triumphs and the end is precious. I highly recommend this one! This is my book clubs read for the month and there is also a reader's guide in the back along with an interview with the author.
